Dr Michael Graybar, DC

Dr. Michael Graybar has officially been a North Carolina resident for twenty years now after traveling coast to coast. He is originally from East Brunswick, New Jersey where he was raised. Dr. Graybar attended St. Joseph’s High School in Metuchen, New Jersey before his studies led him to The University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He graduated in May, 1991 with a B.S. in Biology. While attending the University of Scranton, Dr. Graybar led the Scranton Royals to a #12 National Ranking in Men’s Soccer, Division III his senior year. He lettered three of the four years while at Scranton, with All-Conference and All-Regional Honors his junior and senior year. Traveling from coast to coast, Dr. Graybar began his chiropractic studies at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (L.A.C.C.), graduating with Dean’s List Honors in December, 1994. His Chiropractic practice began in Wilmington, North Carolina in 1995 and he maintains an active membership and standing with the North Carolina Chiropractic State Association.

These are Dr. Graybar’s comments on his chiropractic graduate work: “My chiropractic education in Los Angeles was fantastic! It was an amazing experience spending four years of my life in L.A. but I am glad to be back on the East Coast. I always get asked about my education and the truth is the chiropractic curriculum is almost a mirror image to a Medical University during the first two years of schooling. The major difference occurs in the third year when the focus shifts to “chiropractic holistic philosophy and spinal manipulation” instead of pharmaceuticals-drug therapy. This was the favorite part of my entire education. I got to understand the cause and effect of “health and wellness” rather than to numbing or masking the symptoms with medications. L.A.C.C. prepared me to be the “complete doctor” and this is the concept I try to bring into the clinical setting everyday.

And now onto his current personal life: Dr. Graybar and his wife, Tracey, a nurse, have been happily married for 21 years and have 7 wonderful children, Tyler, Sarah, Kenny, Ryan, Madison, Jack and Christian James. Tracey is a California native, born and raised in Orange County. They met on a blind-date during his chiropractic studies and, within 16 months from that first meeting, were married and had moved their lives to North Carolina. Their family maintains an extremely active lifestyle with an emphasis on time spent with sports and the outdoors. The girls enjoy dance and cheerleading while the boys maintain an active soccer and basketball lifestyle. Sorry Carolina fans, this is a DUKE basketball family. Additionally, Dr. Graybar is the head-coach for Wallace-Rose Hill Men’s Varsity Soccer and the Charity Middle School soccer programs. He is also the director of a club travel soccer team, Wallace United. He enjoys coaching and any given weekend, you will see him on the soccer field coaching dozens of players. He also maintains a five handicap on the golf links and enjoys golfing with his sons when soccer is not in season.

Dr Kevin Johnson, DC

Dr. Kevin Johnson is happy to be back home. He is a native of Wilmington and graduated from Laney High School in 1993. Upon graduating, Dr. Johnson attended East Carolina University earning his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Science while lettering in varsity soccer. While playing soccer, he was a scholar athlete which entails the keeping of an overall GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Once he graduated from college, he was not satisfied with his career choice. He knew he wanted to be in a career that enabled him to help people but was not fulfilled. He was encouraged to attend chiropractic school by his stepfather, long time successful Wilmington chiropractor, Dr. Robert Van Note. Being raised with chiropractic at his fingertips since the age of 10 it was a great fit since he was never really sick and if he got hurt playing soccer he recovered quickly.

Dr. Johnson attended Life University, School of Chiropractic and graduated with honors from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC in 2004. While in chiropractic school, he was involved with numerous adjusting clubs such as the Thompson technique club, Diversified Full Spine club, Activator club, the Chiropractic Biophysics club, the Pediatric club and the Extremity adjusting club. This allowed him to further his knowledge of treating patients in the clinical setting. After many years of practicing his mission is simple. It is to help people lead more active and healthy lives no matter what season of life you may be in at this time. His chiropractic interest lie in Posture correction with Chiropractic Biophysics, treating sports injuries, children, pregnant women, auto accidents, geriatrics’ and people that want to improve their overall peak performance. He has a general certification in Chiropractic Biophysics, treatment of Workers Compensation by the North Carolina Chiropractic Association and has attended numerous continuing education classes in Chiropractic Biophysics, sports injuries, the Cervical and Lumbar spine, as well as auto accident injuries from the renowned Spinal Research Institute of San Diego by Dr. Arthur Croft.

Dr. Johnson has been married to his wife Heather for 22 years and they have two children together, Brady and Morgan. They attend Port City Community Church, and enjoy spending time together at the beach as well as going to local sporting events and supporting the local soccer club the Wilmington Hammerheads 1st team and the Hammerheads youth teams. Not only is Dr. Johnson still lacing up his soccer boots, he is an avid surfer and enjoys being outside. He and Heather want everyone to know that they are very humbled and excited with the opportunity to be able to serve the patients and their families from the beautiful surrounding Wilmington area.

Dr Maryann Luxeder, DC

Dr. Maryann Luxeder has been the clinic director of the Clinton – Graybar Chiropractic office since 2008. Dr. Luxeder was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and moved to Clinton, North Carolina from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in the spring of 2007. A career in health care began by being accepted to a Physical Therapy Assisting program after high school. After she began experiencing complications from a car accident the field of chiropractic became relevant to her. Her new career journey had her returned to Kent State University taking night classes while still working 40 hours a week. Dr. Luxeder obtained the required courses needed to become admitted to Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.

Her heart always told her that Palmer was the place for her to begin again. Palmer College is where the entire profession of Chiropractic began and so to return to her passions birth place was the only place for her to go. On June 17, 2005, she graduated with her Doctor of Chiropractic degree. While attending Palmer she was on the Presidents List and an ambassador of the president’s office by being a campus guide. She had acquired enough credits to finish her education early however she chose to remain on campus and work in a nearby chiropractic office to gain even more experience taking care of patients. By doing so she was offered the unique opportunity to participate in the Clinic Abroad program. This program provided her with chiropractic care experience of travel and providing care to the wonderful people in the most impoverished areas of India. This ten day trip changed her life by showing her just how important chiropractic is to the health and wellbeing of all those around the world.

Since the first day she opened the doors to the clinic, the people of Clinton have opened their arms making her feel at home. “Clinton and Sampson county has taught me the wonder of an extended family”. “Even though mine is miles away, this wonderful community feels like home”.

Outside of her work in the clinic, Dr. Luxeder also volunteers in her church as well as the community. Her passion to help and coach others is deeply rooted in a belief that if I “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” By teaching the foundation of health and wellbeing to all I can empower others to in turn take care of themselves.

Dr Luccus Workman, DC

I was born and raised as 1 of 6 children on a farm in Illinois. At an early age I became interested in the human nervous and musculoskeletal systems. When I was in high school I suffered from a football injury to the neck and listening to the advice of my parents I sought help from a chiropractor.

The concept of achieving health naturally and actually removing the cause of the problem fascinated me. With the removal of my neck pain and with an overall improvement of my health I moved from being fascinated about chiropractic to being committed to chiropractic … for life.

I have a daughter who is the light of my life. I believe in living a healthy and balanced lifestyle, I also believe that educating ourselves leads to empowerment. Those beliefs spill over into the care that I give my patients. When you come in for care you can be assured that I will treat you with the same care and commitment that I give my family. I will not only address your health concerns but I’ll also strive to guide you so that you will be able to take control of your own health and wellness. I look forward to working with you to maximize your health.
